Glencore and its subsidiaries process, handle and market wheat, corn, barley, rice, oilseeds, meals, edible oils and biodiesel. We are a leading exporter of grain from the EU, Russia, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Argentina and Australia. Global markets, particularly on the supply side, are highly fragmented and in many countries we procure grain directly from the farmer. To support these activities our subsidiaries own or operate processing, storage and handling infrastructure. North Africa, the Middle East and Asia are our prime export markets. Marketing is coordinated through Glencore's subsidiary office in Rotterdam.
Sugar
Glencore, itself or through its subsidiaries, is a leading participant in the global Sugar business, and is involved in both raw sugar and white sugar sourcing as well as in refining and processing. Glencore's sugar business activities are coordinated through its subsidiary in London. Sourced mainly from Brazil, Thailand and India, our main destinations are Russia, Indonesia, West Africa and the Middle East.
Production assets
Our subsidiaries own origination elevators in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Paraguay, Poland,Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Uruguay with a combined storage capacity of 3.8 million tonnes.
In the Ukraine, a Glencore subsidiary owns 80 of a Sunseed crushing plant with an annual capacity of 250,000 metric tons.
A subsidiary of Glencore is the owner of the Moreno Group in Argentina. Moreno's facilities include interior silos, an export elevator in Bahia Blanca and four Sunseed/Soyabean crushing plants with a combined annual capacity of 1.9 million metric tons.
In Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay our subsidiaries own shareholdings of between 50% and 100% in flour and rice mills with a combined annual capacity of 1.5 million metric tons.
In Brazil, a subsidiary of Glencore owns an oilseed crushing plant with an annual capacity of 350,000 metric tons.
In Australia, Paraguay, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, Glencore farms 270,000 hectares of owned or leased land.
